Let It Go!

Have you listened to the song Let It Go from the Disney Movie Frozen?

I personally love this part: “Let it go… Can’t hold it back anymore… Turn away and slam the door…”

That is in a nutshell what you need to do to let go of your story, your past beliefs, your past behaviors and your past attitudes.

If you want real change you can’t hold it back anymore. You need to do what it takes to be able to let go.

Cutting Loose

Letting go of something that you have been holding on to can be a liberating process. It can mean letting go of a person, a difficult situation, or letting go of the past. It can mean forgiveness – towards your self and towards others.

Sometimes when we stop holding on and simply let go, the situation has the tendency to resolve on its own. That can be a great solution when we feel stuck and unable to move forward. Try it next time you feel stuck. Just let it go – and see what happens. This can be a huge opportunity for transformation.

Let It Go – The Practical Approach

Oftentimes the situation is such that we cannot slam the door, like in the song, because there are issues we need to deal with. It is like having a storage room full of stuff you haven’t gone through in a long time. Things simply fall on the floor when you open the door. So that is going to prevent you from being able to slam the door.

If this is the case for you, as it was for me. You need to go through your “stuff” bit by bit. Just begin with what is laying there in the doorway. What seems evident to you in the first round. Start letting go of that. Then you can move on to the bigger things – and on and on until the storage room door can be slammed again.

Tip: Whenever I find myself in a place where I need to let go of old habits and paradigms, I start in the physical realm by de-cluttering my environment. I use the metaphor with the storage room for a good reason. The more clutter there is in our lives, the more we need to let go off. Clear the space for new things to come into your live. You know the saying: “When one door closes – another one opens”. So clear the way for change.

It’s Spring Cleaning Time!

The thing with storage rooms is that they tend to fill up again and again. It is funny how that happens. The same is with the things we need to let go off. They have the tendency to pile up. So it is good to do an annual spring-cleaning and even add a holiday fresh up to stay on track.
