What an interesting topic to explore – women and money. Especially since it is mostly put in the commercial context of how women spend money or what they spend money on. Women as a group are often perceived mainly as spenders. But what is the truth to that perception?
Let’s explore women and money from a wider perspective. Let’s explore how women manage their money. Both in business and in their personal life. Let’s explore how women relate to money. How are we different in our approach to money and what do we have in common as a group, if anything?
How Do Women Manage Their Money?
Or should the question be, how many women actually manage their money? Did you know that only 7% of the worlds riches are formally in the hands of women? That to me is a shocking fact. At the same time, the fact provokes questions like: What kind of paradigm shifts will we see in the world as more and more women become financially independent and empowered with money?
My desire is to empower women financially so that more and more women can become financial leaders in their lives. Each and every one of us women can take part in shifting the power of money in the world. We can do that by becoming empowered with money. Thus changing the story of women and money.
What Do Women Invest In?
Women are invested in making the world a better place. Where women are financially empowered, they make sure that mouths are fed, children go to school and that the society is being developed.
Research shows that equal gender participation on company boards, leads to changed company cultures, quality governance and better financial outcomes.
According to statistics issued on the webpage of the National Association of Women Business Owners, in the United States, more than 11.6 million firms are owned by women, employing nearly 9 million people, and generating $1.7 trillion in sales as of 2017. According to the same source, one in five firms with revenues over 1 million US dollars or more is owned by a woman.
The European Commission conducted a statistical study of entrepreneurship in 2012. The study showed that there were 11,6 million women entrepreneurs active in the 37 European countries, or 30% of all entrepreneurs. Of those 11,6 million women entrepreneurs, 22% had personnel and 78% were solo entrepreneurs.
So as we can see by the statistics, many women are investing their time and energy into building businesses. Many women want the security and the liberty of having their own business. They also want to be able to grow their business and to create a sustainable future.
Women are changing the world. As more women become empowered with money, the energy of money will shift. You can change your money universe by taking the first step towards becoming the financial leader in your life.
